Before attempting to complete an application to the Polish-American Board of Education of Berks County, PA ("PABE") for an academic scholarship, please make sure to read the rules carefully. The application process can lengthy and time-consuming, and incomplete or invalid applications will not be considered.

1.  Any Berks County (PA) High School senior of Polish-American descent may apply who can provide evidence of at least 25% Polish heritage.

2.  The applicant shall be a resident of Berks County for at least four years prior to the date of application.

3.  The application forms shall be available at each of the Berks County 's high schools in care of the principal's office, their guidance counselor, from the Scholarship Secretary listed below or through our web site www.pabe-berks.org.

4.  Every applicant and their parents or guardian shall to the best of their ability give voluntary support to the Board.

5.  The applications shall be completed by the applicant and be filed with the Board's Scholarship Secretary by Saturday, March 20, 2010 with the following attachments:

•  Most recent school transcripts, including SAT score(s).

•  Explanation of why this scholarship should be granted.

•  Documentation providing evidence of at least 25% Polish heritage. Acceptable documentation is deemed to be copies of birth, baptismal or marriage certificates of parents, grandparents or great-grandparents that can demonstrate such Polish ancestry. These copies should be accompanied by a hand-drawn family tree that shows such lineal heritage.

•  List of books or articles read by applicant on matters of Poland or Polish-American topics.

6.  Selection of all scholarship winners will be determined by the Scholarship Committee based upon information submitted from section (5) above. Each award and the amount shall be determined by the Board on an annual basis and shall be paid directly to the college on an installment basis. The student must be enrolled in an accredited college seeking a four year academic degree and must fulfill attendance consecutively.

7. Any applicant receiving a full tuition scholarship from any other source shall not be eligible for this scholarship. Scholarship money is not applicable to housing, books, laboratory fees or transportation.

8. The PABE Scholarship Awards Committee will give preference to the children or grandchildren of active PABE members provided that the student under consideration is of Polish-American descent and has achieved a score of 1500 or higher on their SAT.

9.  The student, or a representative from their immediate family, must attend the presentation banquet or the scholarship will not be awarded.

10.  Scholarships will be terminated if the above rules are not adhered to.

Visit the Berks County Polish-

American Cultural Center, Room 509 at the GoggleWorks, 201 Washington Street, Reading. Everyone is welcome to tour the facility, which is open weekends from noon to 4:00 p.m. (sometimes longer, depending on volunteer staffing)

All persons are invited to attend the regular monthly meetings held the third Sunday of every month (with some exceptions) in the 3rd Floor Conference Room at the GoggleWorks, 201 Washington St., Reading
